Daily Duties at Archbold Medical Center:
Monitor the patients admitted to teh cornary intensive care unit. Conduct patient assessments from head to toe every 4 hours, administer all medications, administer IV therapy as ordered by the physicians. Notify the physician of any changes in the client such as rapid heart rate, low heart rate, shortness of breath, chest pain, neurological changes, unresponsive to stimuli for new orders or for the physician to come see the client. Complete all admission paperwork for newly admitted clients and immediately hook them up the EKG to see what type of rhythm their heart is in (normal sinus rhythm, atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, slow heart beat). Perform 12 lead EKGs every morning on every patient in the unit. Monitor clients that are post operative from stent placements, pacemankers, or heart catheterization. Monitor clients on ventilators and the ventilator settings. Maintain their airway whether it is endotracheal tube or tracheostomy, suction as needed to remove all secretions. Monitor input and output every 2 hours on the clients. Turn the clients every 2 hours if needed. Patient and family education on medications, preoperative procedures, postoperative procedures and follow-up care. Transfer client that are stable to the telemetry step down unit. Make sure their is enough staff for the next shift. Discharge clients if ordered, make sure they have a follow up appointment with the physician before leaving.
