Daily Duties at Nc Department Of Correction:

Personnel Assistant V duties were as follows. Ensured complete employment packages are received from 13 correctional and 3 support facilities through follow up over phone or email with employees or human resources representatives; entered new hire information in to the Personnel Management Information System (PMIS) through PD105s; computed longevity payments; calculated prior governmental service, input prior service in system through PD135s, and relayed the information to employees through letter; corresponded with other governmental agencies on human resources issues such as prior service. Personnel Assistant IV duties were as follows. Departmental resource (of 85 contract and permanent employees) for all personnel administration, training, payroll, employee relations, and employee benefit functions. Prepared paperwork for all retirements in department; gathered information and perform research on all topics addressed by employees from new hires to retirement; track leave status (sick, vacation etc); time sheet administration; answered all employee questions (for employees in person, email, letter, or phone) regarding personnel issues; inform employees of policy changes through written correspondence; utilized PMIS for employee research and job postings. Implemented ways to streamline recruitment and leave tracking by creating Access databases and Excel worksheets. Set up interviews and schedule meetings involving HR. Processed and verified all travel reimbursements. Updated Standard Operating Procedures Manual (SOP) for HR and travel reimbursements as needed. Organized and attended Job Description Workshop taught by DOC HR Analyst and assisted in job description writing and position planning. Utilized OPUS to track employee training. Scheduled employees for HR related training. Scheduled all interviews for unit and prepared interview packages in accordance to the Merit Based Hiring Plan, OSP, and DOC rules. Created and maintained Access database to track and monitor performance reviews and alerted supervisors of pending review dates.
