Daily Duties at University Of New Mexico:
Class Projects 2010 Bridge Engineering Design: Complete design of girder, deck, overhang and substructure of a simply-supported bridge (120 ft). Load combinations, critical section, distribution factors were calculated. Designed distribution of normal and prestressed reinforcements. 2009 Foundation engineering design : Shallow foundation: size design of square footings for an office building. Calculated immediate and consolidation settlement. Estimated the evolution of the settlements with time. Deep foundation: produced design charts for given driven piles and drilled shafts of a glacial site. 2009 Earthquake Engineering: Seismic design of a 3-story shear building under a given earthquake condition, using National Building Code of Canada. Floor displacements, lateral forces, floor shears, base shear and base overturning moment were calculated. 2008 Composite Materials: Experimentally tested Young’s Modulus of a carbon fiber composite beam. A cantilever system was designed. Concentrated loads were applied at the free end of the beam and vertical deflections were measured. The material’s Young’s Modulus was derived from load-deflection equation. 008 Finite Element Method: Modal analysis of a box structure representing a room in vacuum with/without air enclosed, using finite element software ANSYS. Mode shapes and natural frequencies were found. Results confirmed the effects of enclosed air, which introduces extra vibrational modes and modifies mode shapes, compared to the same structure without air enclosed. Experimentally measured the natural frequencies of a structure, which was built according to computer simulation.
What they like about University Of New Mexico:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
