Daily Duties at University Of New Mexico:
Research project funded by the Department of Energy of United States and Sandia National Labs. Utilized finite element software (SAP2000, ANSYS) to predict vibrational behaviors of structures. Acoustic-structure interaction, fluid-structure interaction and acoustic-fluid-structure interaction were studied. Designed experiments measuring natural frequencies of structures and the damping effect of air. A vibrating plate experiment was designed to measure the difference between large air damping case and small air damping case. A baffled piston experiment was designed to measure the sound pressure generated by the vibration of the surface of a structure. Accelerometers and acoustic pressure transducer were used to monitor the vibrational damping effect using virtual instruments built in software LABVIEW. Derived expressions for damping coefficients of air based on acoustic and fluid dynamics theory, respectively. Studied the effect of inner/outer air on vibration of structures. The results of the research were applied to daily civil engineering construction process, evaluating the significance of air during structural vibrations. Designed experiment measuring the thermal coefficients of composite materials (carbon fiber), which is used on solar panels in space program.
What they like about University Of New Mexico:
Working for a company with an emphasis on social values and helping society is a clear and important priority for you - a critical factor in who you choose to work for. In contrast to other factors, you place an organization's reputation for fairness and concern for the community above most other aspects of the company. As you search for a new job opportunity, it is usually possible to find out if the company is involved in the community and/or if it is addressing problems and issues in society. Pay special attention to non-profit organizations and those specifically involved in social action. Moreover, speaking with current and former employees should enlighten you to perceptions of the fairness of the company's leaders and the treatment of employees.
