Daily Duties at American Express:
review application data for approval or decline. if necessary, call the applicant to confirm or obtain missing information. worked with fraud risk group on applications that contained suspicious information. was asked to be acting team leader for the team while the position was filled. This lasted about 3 months. In addition to the regular analyst duties I had to attend staff meetings, conduct meetings and coaching with the team, monitor phone calls and give feedback. was chosen to be part of the new application processing system user acceptance testing team. for the UAT team my responsibilities were to take all the policy and proceedures for all the products and map them to find a single flow and look for common steps. take those process maps and devlop the processing flow for the system. write the processing steps into rule logic that was then loaded into the system to process the applications. These rules were systemaic rules as well as determining where and when an application would route to a work queue for manual intervention. It required us to develop verbal prompts to assist the credit analyst in what they needed to do when they work working in the queue, decision the application, call systems in and review the data from other systems. these systems ordered credit reports, called duplicate, fraud database and current/past customer databases and reviewed the findings, scored the application for credit worthiness and completeness. I also helped test the rules for completeness and accuracy, tested and designed screen layouts, built test cases and submitted problem logs to the technology group doing the coding. Then worked with the technology group to fix the issues and re-test prior to passing off the case. Worked with fraud risk group in devloping matching critera to validate data against other databases to improve systematic functionality. Worked on the UAT team for ~2 years.
What they like about American Express:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
