Daily Duties at Rochester General Hospital:
My job responsibility is to ensure a safe and stress free delivery for women. That includes monitoring fetal heart rate and contractions on the external fetal monitor, reporting my findings to physicians as necessary. Also, I assist in making the labor process as comfortable as possible for patients. This includes encouraging alternative methods of pain relief, assisting patients when they are obtaining an epidural, and providing emotional support for the women and their partners. Another one of my responsibilities is to assist physicians in preparing for and during delivery of babies. Lastly, I also take care of mothers and babies after delivery until they are ready to be discharged from the hospital. A large part of my job includes patient education about the labor and delivery process, newborn care, as well as teaching and assisting first time parents in breast feeding newborns.
