Daily Duties at Life Technologies:

Life Technologies, Carlsbad CA 2005 – 2010 Head, Quality Control 2008 – 2010 • Established QC function as a stand-alone entity. Implemented QC concepts, philosophy, tools, and methods into the organization where they had not previously existed. • Using lean and six-sigma toolbox, improved product first time QC acceptance rates resulting in increased product flow, reduced manufacturing cycle times and improved schedule adherence. • Introduced manufacturing and quality approach using High Performance Work Teams (HPWTs). Organization continues to harvest productivity gains and other cost savings as the HPWTs continuously identify and correct problems and issues that interfere with their performance. • On a daily basis, performed outside QC sphere by serving as one of three managers responsible for guiding the entire manufacturing organization (300 people) towards accomplishing its goals in alignment with corporate objectives. • Served as site representative on a corporate project team focused on initiating a Diagnostics division within Life Technologies. Using H1N1 as the initial target, the team’s charge was to cobble existing molecular biology technologies to establish a diagnostic platform that could be adapted to other markers and targets. • Initiated and led a project to eliminate reagent contamination problems being reported by customers. Contamination related complaints reduced by 95% over a six-month period. Those gains sustained on an on-going basis as a result of the implementation of effective corrective action. Senior Manager, Product Realization 2005 – 2008 • Hired by Life Technologies in 2005 specifically to build the capacity to manufacture selected reagents, proteins and nucleic acids in a cGMP environment. Led a project by which cGMP manufacturing and quality management system capabilities were established and validated in Frederick, MD, within six months of the project start date. Project finished ahead of schedule and under budget. Capabilities and functions installed included Aseptic Manufacturing, Receiving Inspection including Microbiology laboratory, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, EH&S, PCR Laboratories, Distribution/Warehouse, Materials Management, Fill and Finish operations, and Document Control Systems. • Led the project whereby the fully validated cGMP facility earned FDA licensing and ISO13485 certification within five months of the project’s completion date. • Served as operations liaison between manufacturing facility, customers and internal business development personnel. Responsibilities included supporting business development activities and transfer of products/technologies into cGMP site. • Managed 10 person team based in Carlsbad whose primary function was to triage, strategize and execute business opportunities for custom, special and OEM, i.e., non-catalog, products. Consistently realized annual business revenue greater than $20M that would not have otherwise been captured.
