Daily Duties at Us Army Rdecom Ardec:

08/2009 – Present: Project Leader to Improve ARDEC’s Safety Program due to recent highly visible accidents/incidents that could have resulted in catastrophic results. 09/2007 to 08/2009: Responsible for providing expert technical guidance to junior and senior engineers and System Safety Office Branch Chiefs regarding all facets of system safety engineering and management for both munitions and weapons safety. In addition, am responsible for coaching junior safety engineers to best prepare them for upward mobility within the System Safety core competency. Have frequently served as the ARDEC Acting System Safety Manager and represented ARDEC/QESA as a subject matter expert on various technical boards, panels, and technical investigations as well as its primary point of contact in support of higher headquarters inspection and assist visits in the area of safety. 01/2001 - 09/2007: As the former Team Leader, Special Systems, supported large project system safety engineering efforts to include, smart munitions (i.e., Mid-Range Munition (MRM-KE)), depleted uranium round (i.e., M829A3)), Non-Line of Sight-Cannon (i.e., NLOS-C), FCS-GSTAMIDS, and Lead Safety Engineer on the FCS-Manned Ground Vehicles for seven variants. This effort involved participation in numerous IPTs and coordination with multiple levels of internal and external customers, such as PM-Maneuver Ammunition Systems, PM-Soldier Weapons, PM-Close Combat Support, Dept of Army, Army Materiel Command, Training and Doctrine Command, Development Test Center, and US Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventative Medicine. Typical functions performed include: provide expert advice; execution of special projects; generate/review documents, such as Statemnts of Work, Safety Assessment Reports, System Safety Risk Assessments, System Ssafety Hazard Analyses, System Safety Managemment/Program Plans, Fault Tree Analyses, Failure Mode, Effects, Criticality Analyses, Surface Danger Zones, and Type Classification and Materiel Release/Fielding and Deployment supporting data; prepare Safety Health Data Sheets in support of milestone decision reviews and Materiel Release/Fielding and Deployment; prepare safety documentation and support the project/quality engineer in numerous Urgent Materiel Release efforts; plan future requirements for each project as it relates to system safety; prepare, monitor and track funding requirements; resolve issues between the various customers, which usually have different objectives; and marketing the System Safety Office's capabilities and competencies to its current and potential internal and external customers. Special projects included efforts relating to safety analysis of various wall/floor/ceiling materials in shoot houses in support of the Minnesota National Guard.
