King 25323 165th Street ¨ Columbus Junction IA 52738 ¨ 319.461.6229 ¨ lking710@hotmail.com MS/Reading and Literacy BS/Education/Language Arts Walden University Western Illinois University Skills and Experiences Reading Specialist/Lead Literacy Teacher/Gifted Teacher ¨ Planned and facilitated staff development for educators, including, but not limited to, reading and writing strategies, phonemic awareness, phonics development, DIBELS assessments, “r” controlled vowels, vocabulary development ¨ Modeled reading and writing strategies in classrooms ¨ Mentored new educators and staff members ¨ Provided DIBELS and Reading 3D assessments for Kindergarten through Third Grade ¨ Initiated and conducted parent workshops: Preparing Your Child for Academic Success, Kindergarten Roundup with pre-testing, Teaching Sounds and Letters to Your Kindergarten Child ¨ Assisted students in preparation for Speech and Spelling competitions, resulting in two students qualifying to participate in the district competition ¨ Volunteered as an external evaluator for State of Illinois for three years, visiting and observing in various schools in the state ¨ Designed and implemented pull-out and push-in reading and language arts program at a facility for incarcerated and at-risk youth, First through Twelfth grades ¨ Developed and established pull-out program for second and third grade gifted and talented students ¨ Participated in the Illinois’ Young Authors’ Conference with eight students when their original stories were accepted for presentation at the conference Classroom Teacher ¨ Implemented reading-centered Kindergarten and First Grade classes for at-risk students, resulting in students achieving above average scores on first grade ITBS ¨ Differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of individual students ¨ Assigned at-risk students due to ability in bringing out the skills and talents of each child ¨ Taught bi-lingual math Summer School for Fourth and Fifth grade students ¨ Developed grant-funded program for mono- and bilingual primary students to enhance their reading readiness skills ¨ Instructed students at alternative high school in American Literature ¨ Participated in “After School” and “Saturday School” programs ¨ Offered optional “before school” tutoring for students ¨ Served on School Improvement Committee, Reading Committee, Leadership Committee ¨ Piloted reading and math programs for successful implementation into curriculum
