Daily Duties at Hospice Of Spokane:

120 employee, non-profit agency providing end-of-life care, addressing the medical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs of the terminally ill person and their loved ones. Reported to CEO. Promoted from manager to director to lead HR department. Established human resources infrastructure from the ground up. Guided strategic planning and oversaw all HR operational functions with particular emphasis on management and leadership development, labor relations, and organizational assessment. Developed agency’s first HR operations and business plan that allowed Senior Leadership Team to strategically plan for next five years. Transformed agency leadership from reactive response to directed vision.  Built highly regarded HR department with customer service-focused staff empowered by high level of functional performance. Department earned high marks on HR customer service survey and prospered a positive relationship with all employees, who viewed the department as a business partner.  Instrumental in bridging gap between executive team and staff while reorganizing staffing model to better serve patients in their geographic areas. Presented issue to clinicians — nurses and social workers who then designed staffing model that exceeded expectation, reduced travel time, and better served patients. New staffing model surpassed national productivity standards by 40%. Bolstered management/staff cohesiveness by implementing informal manager development programs, consisting of quarterly goals meetings between the two groups.  Elevated labor relations within the union environment resulting in no Unfair Labor Practice charges or grievances filed against the Hospice during tenure from 2002 to 2005.
