Daily Duties at Department Of Health Bureau Of Laboratories:
• Accessioned patients nasal swab, bronchial wash, and autopsy samples • Extracted RNA from samples manually using the QIAGEN MinElute kit and on the QIAGEN BIOROBOT MDX • Set up real-time PCR reactions with CDC approved probes and primers for pandemic H1N1 flu and respiratory panels • Analyzed data and reported sample results that would be sent to the CDC for epidemiological data • Prepared slides of viral cell culture to be used as controls for comparison experiments in Direct Fluorescent Antibody screenings • Validated and confirmed Luminex xTAG® Respiratory Viral Panel against the CDC real-time RT-PCR kit • Optimized the CDC Pyrosequencing protocol for characterizing and identifying samples with resistance to Influenza anti-viral drugs
