Daily Duties at Motorola Inc.:
I had nine promotionals during my time at Motorola starting in cost accounting for five plants of Motorola. Then preparing budgets, forecasts and long range plans for a division. Then overseeing a team of six to prepared the special analysis needs of a sector. Then I was responsible for the quarterly reviews at the corporate level for each group and sector. Also repsonsible for the monthly board slides used by the CFO. Then went on to a small team charged with buying companies under ten million in sales that complemented the core business units of Motorola. I would head up the due diligence teams prior to the purchase and would have to submit a report of our findings to the Senior Elected Vice President in charge as well as the Chairman of the Board. I then went on to head up the finance department for one of the subsidiaries I helped to create.
What they like about Motorola Inc.:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
