Daily Duties at The Ohio State University:
Reported to Civil Engineering Department Chair with responsibility of leading an undergraduate student research team for projects of structural analysis, statistical analysis and optimization design. Developed software to perform forced vibration/stress analysis of full wheel randomly mistuned bladed rotors to avoid high cycle fatigue (HCF). Performed FEA using UG I-DEAS for mistuned integrally bladed rotors (IBR). · Developed a new 3-D model with associate software for an entire bladed disk annulus that captures the essential vibratory physics of concern in HCF. Utilized 95% less degree of freedoms compared to UG I-DEAS FEA to get solutions with significantly less computer calculation resource. · Developed a robust reduced order methodology for solving complex nonlinear constrained multi-objective optimization problems. Revealed a set of novel analytical tools to better understand situations of strategic interactions between agents promoting, negotiating, and defending their partially conflicting interests. · Performed statistical Monte Carlo analysis and efficiently analyzed 2,000 randomly mistuned IBR and obtained a safety stress envelope that avoids HCF problem to ensure the highest level of safety and durability of the jet engines. · Completed a project of developing a reduced order model with associate computer codes to optimum design GE90 composite fans. Successfully reduced the weight of fans by 30% and satisfied specific aeroelasticity, flutter, stress, engine order excitation and response objectives to avoid engine structural failures.
What they like about The Ohio State University:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
