Daily Duties at Blue Cross Blue Shield Of Utah:
Director of Desktop Strategies 1995-1997 I was promoted within Utah’s largest health insurance provider to lead a nine-person staff of PC and network specialists with responsibility for statewide PC purchasing, installation, maintenance and end-user training. Participated in weekly long- and short-range strategy meetings with executive management and served as initial corporate webmaster. • Project manager for transition from 350 mainframe terminals to client/server PCs; including vendor negotiations, installation plan, project roll-out, training and follow-up. • Achieved on-time, on-budget completion of projects such as mainframe to client/server migration and PC to mainframe connectivity. • Steered company toward new corporate initiative aimed at customer convenience and self-service by leading early phase planning of the BCBS online strategy and convincing senior management to invest in online provider search capabilities. • Employed exceptional communication skills to understand, explain and ease the impact of technical projects on individual personnel at all levels through frequent, positive contact. Senior Business Systems Analyst 1993-1995 Actively researched business processes, best practices and technologies to recommend efficiency-enhancing changes as internal consultant to the IT department. Studied technical literature, qualified potential solutions vendors, and attended numerous conferences, seminars and trade shows to identify business software that best suited the needs of business unit customers. • Convinced change-resistant executive management of the benefits of moving to a client/server environment. • Promoted to project manager for mainframe to client-server transition. • Lead trainer for 250 end-users on enterprise project management using the Platinum EDM Project Management Tool. • Introduced object-oriented programming methodology to streamline software development and user productivity. Senior Programmer Analyst 1991-1993 Led a team of five programmer/analysts responsible for analyzing business requirements to design and program optimal enterprise project management and customer billing solutions. Met daily with programmers and department heads, researched IT enhancements and performed hands-on programming. • Improved cash flow by redesigning a cash payment system that reduced average customer payment time from 45 days to 31 and by creating a JIT customer invoicing system to minimize adjustments. • Brought much needed structure to business application development projects by authoring, instituting and training end-users on project management methodologies and solutions. • Project management enhancements enabled reassignment of programmers for $500,000 annual savings. • Repaired and strengthened relationships between programmers and end users by developing a strategy to actively increase communication at all levels of the organization.
What they like about Blue Cross Blue Shield Of Utah:
The social vibrance of a hiring firm is very important to you. Your ability to make and maintain friendships there is a critical part of your decision. You would likely be dissatisfied with a workplace that is quiet, cold, or otherwise not particularly social. When you investigate a new hiring company, ask recruiters, managers, and potential co-workers about the social life and opportunities there. This is especially important when you are relocating; moving dramatically alters your social sphere both inside and outside the workplace.
