Daily Duties at Motorola:
Assigned as an audio quality engineer to bring a system-wide focus to a component-level box of the iDEN system. The purpose of this was to reduce the number of system test found defects from the DSP group. Responsibilities included working on new feature development with other members in order to keep iDEN current in the marketplace as well as working with the team on special projects, some of which are mentioned below. • Built an iDEN development test lab with a live iDEN site for testing and development. This included sourcing and procuring all of the equipment, installation of all the equipment, design of the RF wiring for the purposes of a test environment, and calibration of all the equipment. • Worked with an outside vendor for over a year to develop a feature that would non-intrusively score audio on a certain percentage of live calls of a system to determine if the audio on any particular site was stable, getting better, getting worse, or had developed a problem such as interference from another site during frequency re-planning. This feature never became a committed project. • Completed extensive echo canceller testing as a combined effort between the vendor, Motorola Plantation, and Motorola Schaumburg. Wrote all of the test software and scripts for the testing and was responsible for preparing the lab for testing. Participated on a team that evaluated audio when testing was completed. • Worked with Nextel as well as Motorola in Virginia to set up, capture, and evaluate audio in a drive test environment in a live market. Audio was captured at various points in the network and then sent to our team to evaluate the audio and determine if there were any issues.
What they like about Motorola:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
