Daily Duties at Fleet Car Carriers:

Fleet Car ships automobiles by truck via contractual and spot market arrangements with automobile manufacturers, and exclusive contracts with owner/operators for the actual hauling. Fleet Car handles the bulk of the administrative functions for owner/operators in exchange for a percentage of what is billed to the manufacturer. It uses VTrak, a proprietary application written primarily in VB and SQL Server to run its business, run as a Windows application at the main office and via Terminal Server at remote sites. Improved productivity dramatically in mission critical activities of Rating (of vehicle shipments), Intent to Pay Matching (correlation of outbound EDI invoices and inbound EDI payment information) and Rating Exceptions (workflow for discrepancies between Intents to Pay and invoices). Gathered requirements, designed, and implemented the following enhancements to the corresponding VTrak modules. Eliminated frequent and numerous incorrect automated matches in Intent to Pay Matching and created a UI for users to match the remainder, obviating specious rating exceptions, incorrect accounting entries, and remediation of the latter. Enabled the timely identification, mitigation, and communication of new Rating Exceptions. Automatically grouped exceptions into Patterns to eliminate the display of redundant information, and created a Rates Management workflow UI to display and act upon only those patterns (still) requiring Rates Management action. Created an A/R workflow UI to display and act upon only those patterns (still) requiring an accounting remedy identified in the Rates Management workflow (Fleet Car writing off the difference, refunding the difference, collecting the difference, or a combination thereof). Dramatically reduced incorrect payments to owner/operators, demands on IT, verbal and e-mail communications, and manual A/R activities regarding rating exceptions.
