Daily Duties at Faro Technologies, Incorporated:

Duties include all mechanical design for portable coordinate measurement equipment and related systems. My first year at FARO I reported directly to the CEO for new product development that resulted in many improvements to the existing product line. During this time we experimented with aluminum extrusions, investment casting and rapid prototyping utilizing Stereo Lithography. I was responsible for selecting appropriate vendors, site surveys and all vendor communication. For the next two years I supervised the mechanical design department including junior designers and drafters in addition to my mechanical design duties. I have worked closely with the shop and the rest of engineering to initiate many product improvements and cost reductions. All of the design work has been done in 3D parametric solids with Autodesk Mechanical Desktop versions 1.2, 2 & 3. I was working directly with the Senior Mechanical Engineer in a continuous product improvement program and new product development. I am also supervisor of the prototype machine shop and worked to make my own prototypes when the machinist was busy on other projects.
