Daily Duties at Royal Electric Company:

As the companies sole safety employee with over 30 projects covering California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and Nevada my duties were to plan, implement, and coordinate the safety program with all project superintendents, supervisors, foremen, and tradesmen. Identify and appraise conditions which could produce incident/injury and financial losses, and evaluate potential extent of injuries producing potential of given system, opeation or process. Coordinate safety activities of unit managers to ensure implementation of safety activities throughout the organization. Compile, analyze and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and injury and prepare reports for information of personnel concerned. Maintain liaison with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, insurance agencies and rescue teams to assure information exchange and mutual assistance. Inspect job sites to detect unsafe or unhealthy governmental standards according to procedure. Conduct investigation on supervisors and employees to obtain facts about work practice or incident. Evaluate and rate unsafe conditions according to factors, such as severity of potential employees at work, to determine compliance with safety precautions and safety equipment used; ordered suspension of work activity which posed a threat to workers. Write new safety order proposals designed to protect workers from work methods, processes, or other hazard not previously covered, using knowledge or safety-engineering practices, available protective devices, safety testing, and occupational safety and health standards. Review log of reportable injuries and preventive actions taken to determine employers' attitude toward compliance with regulations. Interpret applicable laws and regulations to advise employer on legal requirements. Conduct training and consultation to all employees and work with each Foreman to promote a safe working environment. Prior to transfering into the positon of safety manager, I worked directly for the Contract Manager in reviewing in-coming contracts, processing out-going contracts, preparing bid packages, disadvantaged employer invitations and other related contract requirements for local, state and federal projects.
