Daily Duties at Boeing:

777 AC Avionics: Work involved the development of the factory functional tests of the 777 AC Cabin Management System avionics. Designed RF and digital control tests, in C-code for our new Automated Test Station (ATS). Work involved defining studio quality video/auto test equipment for the ATS. Developed functional test requirements during the hardware bench test phase. Determined test vectors, reviewed analog & digital circuits for testability. Worked on the Cabin EMC (Entertainment Multiplexor Controller) LRU (Line Replaceable Unit). Worked with the ATS calibration IPT for the overall automated and manual RF tests. Designed a special PCB (pull-down board onto ATS) layout using Mentor Graphics Layout. Used standard ARINC cables and connectors to interface with the ATS. Coordinated all efforts with multiple product teams, such as Built-In-Test (BIT), STE database, QA, and ATLS (Aircraft Test Language Specification). Data Bus and Distributed Systems R & D: Worked on a research and development Boeing team in the advancement of and study of distributed architectural control designs such as “fly-by-wire” and “fly-by-light” technologies. Developed performance models with an integrated semi-Markov performance and reliability control system tool. Worked with a Cadence tool called, “Block Orientated Network Simulator”. Created simulation models of multi-layer communications protocols such as, FDDI, and Token Ring by placing sensors along the topology and studied characteristics such as throughput. Low Observables (LO) Technology Development: Involved with RCS scattering code development on proposed and actual low observable aircraft and subsystem designs. Performed Beta testing of code based on: Physical Theory of Diffraction (PTG), Geometrical Theory of Diffraction (GTD). Expanded code capabilities to include the Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD) and the Impedance Boundary Condition (IBC). Developed a LO materials document for the LHX (Comanche). Studied scattering effects on composite surfaces like gaps, cracks, and joints. Performed data reduction of instrumentation radar measurements of scale models. Studied secondary scattering effects on Frequency Selective Surface (FFS). Assisted in Dielectric Materials and thin films measurements and modeling. Experience with Syntactic foams, fiber loaded polymers, loaded dielectrics, and honeycomb core. Modeled and performed a trade study of potential low observable fighter aircraft vertical stabilizer designs. Assisted in RCS measurements and analysis of an aircraft subsystem design for reducing Antenna mode scattering and a Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS).

What they like about Boeing:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
