Daily Duties at Harris County Hospital District:
Delivered counseling and spiritual care to patients and families in hospital belonging to nation’s 3rd-largest hospital district employing staff of 10,000+ and housing 900+ beds. Specialized in geriatric and palliative care, dying, grief, trauma, advance directives, ethical decision-making, and additional end-of-life issues. Conducted patient visits and developed tailored care plans. Liaised between patients and medical care providers, conveying patient concerns and communicating with physicians and nurses regarding treatment. Issued patient referrals as needed and conducted discharge counseling. Partnered with social workers to arrange post-discharge placement in home health facilities and/or hospice care. Contributed to interdisciplinary consultations and meetings to discuss patient care options. Conducted research in areas including patient care, spirituality in healing, and patient satisfaction, and presented findings at industry conferences. Performed ecumenical services. • Counseled 3150+ patients and 1000+ family members within 1 year, addressing concerns and providing assistance through various patient-care processes. • Improved patient care and satisfaction through communicating among patients, physicians, and hospital staff for the purpose of resolving any conflicts. • Enhanced spiritual care quality through completing data-supported research studies and applying findings from the same to patient spiritual care. • Led grief counseling group, expanding group from 11 to 58 members within 6 months.
