Daily Duties at Arvin Meritor:
Report to Plant Manager and Director Of Continuous Improvement in company wide initiative to Launch Lean Sigma. The Maxton facility manufactures Military and Commercial Axles, Transfer Cases and Drive Shafts with records sales in 2009 of $450K. Primary responsibility was to work with plant to develop, implement, and sustain a Lean Sigma culture consistent with the TPS principles. Accomplishments • Achieved an overall plantwide productivity improvement of 25% over 2 years from 36% to 61%. • Reduced plant inventory by over 50% ($25M to $11M). During this time a plant wide Kanban system for all small parts kitting operations was established. Also eliminated 50% of bulk materials storage in central warehouse by converting to line side staging at production lines resulting in 30% reduction in warehouse labor. • Successful implementation of 5S mindset including organization of self directed 5S teams in all areas of factory. • Mentored plant in development of preassembly kitting process of Axle and Wheelend small parts which saved $240K in annual labor savings and won the company’s President award for Lean improvement in 2008. • Led effort with Maintenance and Production to put in place a TPM system reducing machine downtime 50%.
