Daily Duties at Longs Drug Stores:

Selected for newly created department of a Fortune 500 retailer to launch new inventory management system, Oracle Retail Merchandising System (formerly RETEK), to overhaul legacy corporate inventory management system, which was outdated and prone to error. Partnered with business users, system analysts and software developers to define requirements for custom modifications to meet needs of Longs business model. Successfully deployed to more than 500 stores in the chain. - Key participant in all phases of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with the goal of building a customized retail inventory system. Successful implementation achieved a $50 million reduction of excess inventory in the chain over 4 years, and achieved a 57% improvement in the in-stock merchandise position. - Analyzed and documented business and system requirements for new Store Operations system in a standardized format, including business rules, detailed process flows and requested reports. - Built strong relationships with cross-functional team members including Subject Matter experts, Quality Assurance, Training, Marketing, Store Operations and Stores. - Authored the functional design of a customized retail store scan receiving system that linked to Oracle Retail Merchandising System (RETEK) which significantly improved recovery of overcharges from vendors and expanded inventory visibility to company-wide business users. - Implemented a new ‘targeted’ cycle count system, including the introduction of the concept of ‘compliance and verification’ to the company, and developed related senior management reporting which increased inventory accuracy and directly increased profitability. Achieved average weekly cycle count compliance performance of 91% throughout chain. - Analyzed distribution center ‘case-pick vs. each pick’ scenarios for thousands of private label items, resulting in recommendations that aligned store order multiples to actual sales demand, saving thousands of dollars in hidden overstock carrying charges. - Designed Crystal Reports for use by Store Managers, Store Operations, Loss Prevention, Marketing and Inventory Accounting. Maintained and managed modifications to these reports. - Provided ongoing production support for the new inventory management system to stores and corporate end users. Continuously improved and enhanced inventory management processes and Store Operations Systems based on user input.
