Daily Duties at Warn Industries:

WARN is a manufacturer of OEM and after-market 4-wheel drive and off-road components for Ford, Jeep, GM, GKN, Toyota, and several ATV manufacturers. At WARN, my main project during my internship was to design an automated edge de-burring machine for use in manufacturing the GKN All-wheel drive clutch shaft assembly. The problem was that during the milling operation there was a burr created on the end of the shaft. My de-burring machine needed to clamp onto the shaft, find a reference position, and remove the burr on all 7 milled flats. The machine used a compact logic controller to successfully run through the automated de-burring cycle in 45 seconds. I used SDRC-Ideas to model all of the components of the de-burring machine and create detailed part drawings. After the machine was built, I worked with a consultant from Nymotion Systems to develop the machine cycle program, and develop a homing routine. The machine that I designed was able to successfully remove the burr from the clutch shaft, however, I had to leave the fine tuning of the machine to my mentor Gary Hartung and the consultant from Nymotion Systems when my internship ended.

What they like about Warn Industries:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
