Daily Duties at Climax Portable Machine Tools :
Climax PMT is a manufacturer of custom portable machine tools for on-site machining in the shipbuilding, power generation, construction, and mining industries. As a manufacturing engineer at Climax PMT, my duties were focused on specific projects. At Climax, they were having problems with keeping the production floor machine tool coolant clean and as a result new coolant usage was up, and waste coolant disposal had increased. I designed and installed new filtration systems for each machine, as well as a waste coolant recycler. Altogether new coolant usage dropped 11% and waste fluid disposal reduced by 500 gallons per year. I was also involved in creating a new layout for the machine shop and assembly areas to accommodate two 5-ton bridge cranes, a new machining center, and new material storage racks. The new layout also allowed for the creation of a new manufacturing cell and a flexible machine assembly and repair area.
