Daily Duties at De Marini Sports:

DeMarini Sports is a subsidiary of Wilson Sporting Goods, which manufactures high performance baseball and softball bats for the U.S. and Japanese market. As a specialized manufacturer that started as a home business, DeMarini has designed and built all of their own manufacturing equipment. My focus has been on designing new manufacturing machines that improve the speed, reliability, quality, and safety of the manufacturing processes. The End Cap Installation Machine has been a major project for me. I was successful in getting the End Cap Machine to be operated by one production worker, reduce scrap by 10%, reduce maintenance costs, meet the speed of the previous machine, and be OSHA Safety compliant. I have also designed Bonding Assembly Fixtures that reduced maintenance costs by 50%, and reduced setup time from 20 minutes to 5 minutes. Currently, I am using SolidWorks 2008 to design a semi-automated chopsaw that will reduce maintenance costs, reduce scrap, and improve cycle time for cutting the bats to length. My responsibilities also include creating routings, detailed BOMs, equipment supplier relations, and supporting R&D projects.
