Daily Duties at Mgh:
36 bed unit, considered the busiest cardiac unit in the US with over 20 admissions and discharges daily. Served as the single PCA on the night shift. Certified in Phlebotomy at MGH. Performed over 200 routine labs and anticoagulation blood tests. Performed STAT blood glucose tests on hypoglycemic patients and STAT EKGs on unstable patients. Informed RN of changes in the patients condition including chest pain, shortness of breath, abnormal vital signs and changes in mental status. Performed Nurse Assistant tasks including: monitoring patients after cardiac catheterization before and after sheath removal, performed EKGs, applied 5-lead heart monitors. Prepared rooms for new admissions, prepared pre-operative patients for next day surgical procedures including open heart surgery. Served as a sitter for the confused or sedated patient. Assisted patients on bed rest with toileting. Accompanied patients to CT and X-ray. Performed glucometer quality control including downloading glucometers every shift. Transmitted the records of four EKG machines to the Cardiology Department.
