Daily Duties at Dennis Publishing, Inc.:

Solely responsible for efficiently managing one person payroll department for semimonthly, multi-state, multi-company payrolls of 400+ full time and hourly employees. Thoroughly focused attention to detail, successfully executes the timely and accurate processing of payroll changes, new hires, terminations, salary increases, earnings calculations, deductions, garnishments, reimbursements, taxable fringe benefits, bonus and commission payments, manual checks, benefit changes, and database updates with ADP PC for Windows, ReportSmith, and MS Excel. Meticulously maintain the integrity and confidentiality of employee master data files and reports. Comprehensive preparation, input, and reconciliation of monthly payroll expense journal entries to the general ledger via Cedar/Oracle software and MS Excel. Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to achieve in depth G/L account analysis, in identifying and resolving account discrepancies. Perform reconciliation of monthly, quarterly, and annual state, local and federal payroll tax withholding to returns and forms 941, 940 and W-2. Diligent research and development to remain up-to-date with compulsory legislative changes to federal, state, local, and labor laws in order to assure company compliance, effective payroll policies and internal controls. Supervise Human Resources staff regarding applicable IRS regulations, compensation calculations, payments, and labor laws. Utilize MS Excel and Word proficiency to develop and maintain detailed management headcount/compensation reporting for budget and benefits expense allocation. Identify and implement mechanisms to improve efficiency and accuracy of: Payroll and Accounts Payable disbursements; eliminate over-payments and W-2/1099 conflicts; ensure proper commission calculations for Billing; and coding of benefit deductions and payments for Accounting and Human Resources; assist with payroll, benefits, 401(k), and general accounting audits. Verify accuracy of employee’s deferrals, calculate company match, and administer complex semimonthly 401(k) savings plan reporting. Correspond to state unemployment wage inquiries, employment verification requests, and employee/independent contractor garnishments. With outstanding, quality customer service, assist Human Resources in benefits administration and resolution of inquiries.
