(http://www.eemaxinc.com/ ) to bring quality to the required levels and increased production for a new market of efficient (green) hot water tanks. To do this I had to review all FDA, UL and NSF regulations and requirements and write the specification and scope of work for these 4 new products to be manufactured at an overseas company and imported into the Central and North American markets by Eemax. First a pilot program was developed and samples were made to be sent to UL for approval. Then tooling and fixtures were developed to bring quality and efficiencies to each product line. In the end three products were launched and a forth is pending UL approval within approximately 8 months. The program was so successful that the overseas supplier is using “lessons learned” from these products lines to increase the quality and production on similar product lines originally built by Grupo Inca and Thermo-solutions in San Jose Costa Rica. Throughput increased 30%, Hours per unit reduced by 22%, Quality issues reduced to the end user are not clear however, sample checks show a reduction of more than 60%. The defects that have been found are slight defects that are limited to cosmetics. No catastrophic defects or failures have been found in any of the sampling for quality.
