Daily Duties at Linotype Hell Company:
I was a scanner and systems instruction working throughout the U.S. and the world. I was responsible for all MAC and PC desktop publishing applications as well as color scanning, electronic retouching, color theory, film recorders, color proofing and pre-press production. I instructed on the Chromacom as well as Orion pagination systems. I worked with Scriptmaster (DTP to high end) software. Creating and developing training documentation and collateral materials. In 1990 we were purchase by Linotype and my duties were expanded to include: Network server training, Linotype’s line of desktop publishing equipment. My scope of responsibility was enhanced with the 3900 series Scanner, DaVinci Workstation, Herkules film setter and all the latest desktop application programs. I helped develop workflow production guidelines. I was the only employee in the company certified on every piece of equipment. I would troubleshoot problem accounts and consolidating workflow and training issues. I was asked to relocate to New York and assist in equipment implementation and employee training. I not wish to move so I turned down the request and left the company. After 14 years I left the company. It was a truly excellent organization with the finest people. (Reason for leaving - I did not wish to relocate.)
What they like about Linotype Hell Company:
You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
