Daily Duties at Caribbean University:

Dr. Sanchez’s IT/CIO The Director of Information Technology Services and Support is responsible for recommending technologies which determine future development and direction; determining which technologies will have the greatest impact on education; conducting technical evaluations and studies; improving Information Systems and Services effectiveness and efficiency; addressing the shorter technology life cycles; allowing users to access information; creating new ways to retrieve data easily; identifying standards; and preparing the budget. Provides leadership for the planning, development, acquisition, and operation of networking and communications services, information systems, and data administration; develops information architecture and standards; oversees enterprise servers, phone systems/services, and distributed computer operations; maintains data and voice communications, data administration, applications support, and new systems acquisition and implementation; assesses and applies new technologies. Provide operational support and management for networks, computer systems, telecom, helpdesk, lobby reception, and mail and manage the development of network systems design and construction projects. 1. Develops and articulates a shared vision of technology uses and benefits 2. Provides direction and clearly describes methods to improve district information and instructional technology delivery and efficiency 3. Provides district-wide leadership to assure the integrity, reliability, and security of computerized information 4. Develops and coordinates district-wide long and short-range plans for systems development, systems maintenance, production activities, and support services 5. Provides technical advice and guidance to district and college administrators, faculty, and classified staff, and technology groups on the design, installation, modification, and operation of college-based information and communication systems projects and equipment 6. Develops, implements and manages budget and operating policies, procedures, and objectives for information technology and information systems expenditures for multi-faceted use by and service to the colleges and district office 7. Establishes realistic standards for the acquisition, acceptance, and use of both hardware and software; monitors compliance with established standards; manages the development, implementation, and maintenance of computer acquisition processes, including both contributions and purchase; manages installation, maintenance, and repair activities 8. Directs, supervises, and evaluates department staff while establishing and maintaining a climate that encourages the development and retention of competent staff, high level morale, and achievement of district goals. Participates in selecting employees; trains, counsels, disciplines and terminates personnel according to established policies and procedures 9. Assures compliance with the District's Injury and Illness Prevention Program by providing motivation, incentives and discipline to assigned staff; maintains a safe work environment, enforcing safe work practices, reporting and investigating accidents, maintaining necessary documentation and requiring employees to receive mandated training 10. Interfaces with industry and academic organizations to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in emerging technologies, and enhance the district's image 11. Identifies and monitors mandatory and appropriate communication standards and protocols, and standards of hardware and software 12. Supports, implements and promotes compliance with the District's Diversity Plan in all aspects of employment and education; encourages cultural and ethnic diversity in staffing, curriculum, programs and services 13. Serves as the District's liaison with the Office of the President, in the development of systems as well as with local agencies and vendors 14. Supervises Datatel/Colleague application, support and services; provides training for District employees 15. Supervises, coordinates and plans operations of Helpdesk services 16. Plans, organizes, controls and directs the activities related to management of the District's Lobby reception and phone operators 17. Manages the District telephone systems including switch systems, remote systems, voice mail system and incoming call directory; communicates with system manufacturer technical support regarding system maintenance, security screening, changes, upgrades and related matters; processes user requests for additions, changes or deletions; updates system software as necessary; coordinates upgrades with appropriate personnel and system manufacturer
