Daily Duties at Drug Delivery System Research Laboratory, St. John's University:
Development of an intranasal delivery system of an antipsychotic agent for the acute treatment of schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions. • Developed HPLC based analytical method for model drug and validated the developed method. • Characterized the physicochemical properties of drug such as solubility, partition coefficient and stability in various pharmaceutical vehicles and aqueous buffer systems for intranasal delivery. • Developed microemulsion formulations of model drug, characterized selected formulations, investigated physicochemical stability of microemulsion formulations and studied dose reproducibility of formulations using nasal spray devices for the proposed intranasal delivery system. • Investigated the in-vitro transmucosal permeability of drug candidate in various vehicles and formulations across rabbit nasal mucosa. • Investigated synthetic membrane to mimic biological membrane for the transmucosal permeation of model drug. • Carry out measurement of powder characteristics such as compressibility/flow ability and powder blending as a proof of concept for further formulation development of solid dosage forms. • Handle instruments such as U.V/VIS spectrophotometer, dissolution test apparatus, DSC, HPLC and particle size analyzer in the analysis of pharmaceutical formulations. Comparative study of the effect of selected amino acids and glyburide on blood glucose homeostasis in the rat. • Evaluated the effect of essential amino acids individually and in-combination on blood glucose level.
