Daily Duties at Newport News Shipbuilding, Newport News, Va:
June 1994-June 2008 Lead Engineer for Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and George H. W. Bush carrier (CVN 77) in all phases of design from beginning to end. To accomplish this I communicated frequently with SUPSHIP and NAVSEA for concurrence of customer needs. Designed heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for complex ships systems in aircraft carriers and merchant ships for the most advanced shipbuilder in the world. Performed calculations and ran computer simulations of designs including: heating and cooling loads, psychrometrics and heating analysis. Laid out system designs, sized equipment, and selected components. Developed a PC–based HVAC design calculation program (Visual Basic Code) that replaced the 30 year old one that existed on the IBM Mainframe (This is the main program used to perform HVAC calculations in aircraft carriers today: New Construction (non-nuclear), Machinery Spaces (Nuclear) and Overhaul). Lead engineer for the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning design/engineering of the Middle section (frame 96-180, about 1,000 spaces) of CVN 21 carrier from the hold to the 03 level. Other responsibilities include finding resolution to new problems which differ from previous carriers and mentoring less experienced engineers. I guided a new engineer in developing a very efficient pressure drop program unique to Aircraft Carriers (Also, on my own time, I just finished developing a new upgrade unique only to CVN 21 to the original HVAC program to size the new Modular Air Cooler units (MAC) which replaced the old Newport News Air Conditioning units made in the yard).
