Daily Duties at Dc Department Of Transportation:

 Work directly under the general supervision of the Division Chief to provide overall objectives and goals to be accomplished during daily operations.  Frequently provide consultation to the Division Chief, Department Heads of the District and Federal agencies, and the Director of Transportation.  Team member of the Mayor’s Task Force ensuring the collaboration of government agencies to prioritize areas in need of immediate attention.  Serves as Snow Shift Master to the DDOT overseeing the clean-up and clearing of snow and ice from the Districts roadways and bridges making safe 1,100 roadway miles.  A First Responder for the DDOT in providing care for state emergencies in conjunction with police, fire, and EMS.  Possess the technical knowledge and expertise in urban and highway transportation safety and roadway safety audits and safety management systems.  Possess technical advice, assistance, and leadership to customers in the areas of roadway safety, traffic control applications, infrastructure safety improvement programs, interpretation of district and federal laws and regulations related to the transportation program, safe accommodation of pedestrians and bicyclists, sign, signal and marking issues (MUTCD).  Provides coordination, negotiation, and consultation for roadway safety to officials within a broad range of governmental agencies at the local and regional levels; officials of non-profit organizations, professional associations, and public interest groups and the general public of the District of Columbia.  Responsible for the Traffic Operations Administration (TOA) and Systems Inspection Oversight Department (SIOD) Team 3 in Wards 3 and 4 consisting of 8 inspectors. Daily activities included ensuring permanent restoration of construction relative to infrastructure, public rights-of-way, and transportation security issues.  Averaged 720 construction sites and 10 emergency situations annually.  Adjudicated disputes between constituents, contractors, and various government entities in order to bring about permanent restoration.  Performs as a project manager, with responsibility for urban highway construction activities in an assigned geographical area of a highway field residency or on multiple moderate to highly complex projects.  Performs transportation planning functions for the various types of transportation systems such as public transportation and urban highway; determines existing service levels and existing and accruing needs for transportation modes; coordinates public input to the decision making process; considers social, economic and environmental effects of proposed projects; assists in developing District transportation plans and programs.  Performs technical reviews of operational functions in assigned areas in accordance with the District guidelines and standards; evaluates basic decisions, advanced computations, documents, records and methods for accuracy, effectiveness and compliance.  Serve as Instructor for the DDOT/TOA/SIOD providing on-the-job training for its new inspectors and periodical update training for its current employees.
