Daily Duties at Spx Weil Mc Lain:

Dedicated to the facility that was re-located to aid in the startup. Responsibilities include leading lean efforts in manufacturing and supply chain, coaching supervisors and managers, training, and managing projects.  Developing buyer/planner role to be implemented across the business. As a buyer for the fabrication department, raw inventory has reduced by 36%. Set up kanban system with metals supplier for high volume SKUs. Low volume SKUs are to be taken off our floor and ordered as needed with production planning working around given lead time for material. As the planner for fabrication, corrected parameters in MRP software so that bottom 14% of demand could be set up on min/max replenishment signals. Remainder is on a card kanban process that I have set up a method to monitor forecasted demand to determine if cards should be added or subtracted.  Implementing kanban pull system for purchased parts. Working with select suppliers to implement VMI. Training other buyers to calculate and implement kanban systems.  Leading efforts to redesign the packaging of the finished product. Selected vendor, achieved ISTA certification, did assembly/shipping trials, and obtained customer feedback. Projected savings of around $750k.  August of 2007 to January of 2008 was interim manager of the paint and packaging department. Took over at the start of peak season and transitioned department to package components separate from paint line allowing for commercial packaging on demand and more efficient supplying of assembly with residential painted parts. Had 28-30 full time and temp direct reports across two shifts. Developed Lean Daily Management System to track and communicate performance. Trained 2 zone leads to take over the department allowing me to return to leading continuous improvement efforts.  Championed a kaizen team that has increased paint line efficiency by 77%. Implemented 5s in paint line area and packaging area.  Multiple value stream mapping kaizens, developed a 2 year plan to implement kanban pull systems for sheet metal parts to supply assembly lines and commercial products. Plan was broken into 3 phases. Completion resulted in a 57% reduction in inventory and no kanban part has had a stock out since implementation
