Daily Duties at Spx Product Solutions Group:
Responsibilities include training, project supervision, technical analysis support, and team coaching and mentoring all in support of continuous improvement efforts. These responsibilities were executed at 5 different business units in the Product Solutions Group. o Contech – Aluminum die casting for the automotive industry Part of team of 3 that developed SPX Lean 101 training series. This is a series of 6 courses covering a foundation of knowledge to support lean manufacturing improvements. Training of Lean 101 in 4 out of 5 North American Contech facilities. Part of team of 4 that developed a Train-the-Trainer program to develop Lean 101 facilitators within each facility. 2-4 trainers per facility attended this 3-day event. Upon returning they would schedule courses with salaried and hourly workers. Someone from our continuous improvement team would be with them to provide support and mentoring on facilitating the Lean 101 series. Lead value stream mapping workshops at 4 facilities. Workshops developed current state maps, future state maps, and kaizen list to get to future state. Provided periodic technical assistance in completion of the kaizen list. Co-facilitated meeting to design the layout of the Clarksville, TN facility after the addition of new equipment to support 3 new customers o Filtran – Assembly of transmission, fuel, and air filters for automotive industry Facilitated Lean 101 Series to a value stream improvement team at Des Plaines, IL facility. Coached team through improvements in value stream. Championed lean efforts in Lugoff, SC. Conducted standardized work, 5s, and visual factory training to management and operators. Identified and further coached 5s and standardized work champions to sustain and expand improvements. Efforts were recognized by corporate in the form of an interview and write up published on the corporate website in August of 2006. Conducted Train-the-trainer in Des Plaines, IL to develop 3 managers, the divisional VP of Operations, Business Unit CFO, and Business Unit President into Lean 101 facilitators. Championed lean/six sigma improvement efforts in Des Plaines, IL. Coached operators and local lean champion on target value streams. Co-facilitated Business Unit Visioning workshop for top leaders of the business unit. o Thermal Products Solutions – Assembly of environmental chambers Facilitated Lean 101 series to a value stream team. Coached the team to improvements that resulted in sustained improvements of roughly a 35% reduction in through put time. Efforts contributed towards the business being recognized in 2006 as an outstanding supplier by Intel. Worked with controller and accounting department to develop value stream mapping template for accounting procedures. Project identified several small gains in productivity and large gains from technology implementation eliminating double handling of information. When all technology is implemented, estimates show that the accounting department will save roughly $1 million per year. o Metal Forge – Cold forging of automotive parts Provided occasional support and coaching to work teams. Coached an assembly cell team to reduce floor space of work cell by roughly 50% through 5s and WIP control/reduction. o Ryken Tubing – Tube bending for the automotive and large truck industry Facilitated Lean 101 training to a pilot team. Trained and coached 2 manufacturing engineers to learn and use Factory Flow Analysis techniques to continue previous efforts to optimize flow in this job shop environment. Trained operators and maintenance team on TPM. Developed process to implement TPM on large benders.
