Daily Duties at Oregon Health And Science University:
In this position I built on earlier studies in which I established an influence of sex hormones on autoimmune disease susceptibility by examining the mechanism behind the protective effect of estrogen (E2). The most important of scientific contributions was my cutting edge study in which I demonstrated for the first time that E2 had the ability to protect against experimental model of Multiple Sclerosis by expanding regulatory T cells compartment (CD4+CD25+FoxP3+). By uncovering several other mechanisms, by which E2 produced in high levels during pregnancy associate with diseases remission, I received national and international recognition including invitations to speak at the prestigious professional conferences, and publications in world-class scientific journals. These results in addition enabled successful NIH and NMSS grant applications written in collaboration with my supervisor. During this time I also supervised the research efforts of the Research Assistants in the lab instructing them in bench top techniques and data analysis.
