Daily Duties at Inova Fairfax Hospital:

Working in compliance with hospital policies & procedures • Clean compounding hood using aseptic technique • Compound daily IV’s a)IVBP b)LVP •Make dilutions for syringes to be sent for the NICU & PEDS unit patients & documenting the same in the medication compounding log. •Well-versed with working on the SUREMED (Filling it with required medicines in different units, doing narcotic count on a daily basis) •Preparation of Buffered Lidocaine for OR unit, Phenobarbital dilution & syringes) on a daily basis for the NICU. •Documentation of all the Narcotics taken out of the SUREMED for each patient, & doing ‘Waste’ for all the narcotics in the SUREMED, used for each patient at the end of the shift. Preparation of IVIG. •Handling high volume of work in the IV hood. •Checking for all the expired medicines & IV bags in the unit bins, refrigerators & pharmacy refrigerator. Performing all the duties of a Unit-Dose techinician : •Responsible for filling all the Unit-dose labels, answering phone-calls from different unit ,tubing medicines to the respective ‘unit’s’ tube stations. •Doing the unit picks & the hourly runs, putting away credits from different units. •Placing orders for the pharmacy, putting away orders once received. •Exchanging Anesthesia, OR trays. Labor & delivery trays, replacing the dirty trays with new ones. •Checking for stocks in the refrigerators & OR shelves. Performing duties as a Swing Technician: •Performing calculations & Compounding oral suspensions, mixtures on a daily basis for PO MEDICINES •Responsible for making & stocking the SUREMED with the Phenobarbital syringes from the dilution ,making & stocking all the Amino acids & 1/4NS bags for NICU . •Making all the IV’S for the DRIP-LIST for NICU. •Collate all the Narcotic forms. •Help other technicians with their work.
