Daily Duties at Herman Miller:
Manage a full range of product development and launch initiatives for a $20 million program portfolio. Plan, direct and control activities within a new product development division and specific manufacturing site to achieve budgeted financial objectives. Report directly to the Vice President for Product Design and Development. • Led the successful turnaround of a stalled and failing development project, delivering a new product within three months to the annual NEOCON international furniture show which received a Gold Medal for the best new system product (ABAK). • Developed a new seating product through HMI’s Geiger International subsidiary which was awarded a Silver Medal at NEOCON; the Company’s fastest seating development project should launch ahead of schedule, on-budget and with higher quality than expected targets. • Directed a critical short-term launch project including all aspects of Design, Sourcing, Manufacturing and Quality while addressing root cause issues to accommodate machine capabilities and assist field installers with fit and function issues. • Managed all development activities through new product launch, effectively coordinating the interactions of product marketing and engineering teams with interior designers, keeping product on track for scheduled timing while maintaining a customer-driven focus. • Introduced and established a wide-variety of best practice disciplines, enhancing both team effectiveness and individual capabilities in ways that became increasingly transferrable with each subsequent product development initiative. • In addition to providing strategic direction and project leadership, played a hands-on role by: ➢ Creating cross-functional schedules to coordinate development/launch activities. ➢ Assisting manufacturing, tooling and assembly plant for global data coordination. ➢ Negotiating and managing all contracts for the product development teams. ➢ Coordinating Product development with Marketing, Purchasing and Operations
