What they like about Macy's:

Working for a company with an emphasis on social values and helping society is a clear and important priority for you - a critical factor in who you choose to work for. In contrast to other factors, you place an organization's reputation for fairness and concern for the community above most other aspects of the company. As you search for a new job opportunity, it is usually possible to find out if the company is involved in the community and/or if it is addressing problems and issues in society. Pay special attention to non-profit organizations and those specifically involved in social action. Moreover, speaking with current and former employees should enlighten you to perceptions of the fairness of the company's leaders and the treatment of employees.

Climbers' Joblogs at Macy's:

HOW TO BE AN EFFECTIVE LISTENER: How do let someone know that you are listening to them?

Effective listening is part of being an effective leader. One of the the most common behaviors I exhibit while talking with someone is to ask questions. I do this often times when I feel the person I am speaking with has not provided all the necessary information or if maybe they are speaking too quicky. Another behavior which is effective is that of paraphrasing, or repeating the most important parts of what they are telling me. This way I can interject my understanding to them immediately. Finally, I like to take notes depending on the situation; this allows me to not only visually comprehend the information as I have heard it, but I can refer it for later use.

What have you done to lately to become more effective in your position?

Engaging in continuous learning is an integral part of becoming more effective. One way in which I make sure I am always learning something new is to register and take my company's online tutorials. The courses targeted toward customer service and effective leadership are the most informative and offer fresh new perspectives. Over the last few years diversity has become such a huge part of not only my customer base but also my employee base. It is important for me to stay current with any emerging trends.
