Daily Duties at Spectrum Brands, Inc:
Handled inbound and outbound transportation for the consumer products divisions, including distribution network sites in St. Louis, Georgia, California, Pennsylvania, the US/Mexico border, and ten contract manufacturing and packaging facilities. Oversaw a budget of $100M and a staff of 15, including freight coordinators, freight claims analysts, and shipping/receiving clerks. Negotiated carrier contracts. Managed the EDI 210/211 implementation. Monitored the material master data (units of measure, HTS and NMFC Classifications, weights and dims), route determination logic, order/delivery/shipment consolidation, freight tendering, shipment rating, and freight payables processing. Initiated loss prevention strategies. • Reduced and maintained freight costs at 6% of sales annually. • Reduced freight claim write-offs to less than $0.01 per $1K in sales. • Worked directly with outside legal counsel to develop boiler plate contract of carriage used for all modes. • Implemented a contract management database that facilitated provider bids. • Coordinated numerous IS projects that facilitated web-based reporting tools (shipping log, equipment forecasting, and dock utilization reports).
