Daily Duties at New York City Housing Authority Design Department:

Working initially (1992-94) as a lead electrician with one or two helpers, I would layout and plan for materials and tools required for wiring tasks throughout the NYCHA system of properties - generally sub-panel extensions to existing service, for support of new data infrastructure and reconstruction of existing community centers, admin areas and similar spaces. Raceway used was either threaded rigid or IMC conduit. After mid 1994, I was selected to fill a vacancy in the Electrical Section of the NYCHA Design Department. There I assisted engineers with gathering field data and preparing specifications, schedules and details for contract documents to be made available for open bid. I became familiar with Microstation and excel as a result. The scope of work generally involved wiring upgrades for service entrance equipment; apartment wiring upgrade; intercom and access control upgrades; cctv and security wiring installations; light fixture, power wiring and dedicated equipment wiring upgrades and installations.

What they like about New York City Housing Authority Design Department:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
