Daily Duties at Integrated Production Test Engineering:
IPTE manufactures automation equipment for the industry that supplies electronic devices to the auto-industry. They also design & install complete production lines that incorporate equipment from other vendors while providing all conveyance machines & some of the test, assembly & program equipment used for producing the product. In the past year I’ve worked on a project at Bosch in Anderson, SC. More than 100 IPTE machines installed with equipment from other vendors. The line assembles different versions of an item known as a Transmission Control Unit; the device is commonly used in SUV’s & Pick-Ups. After all equipment was installed I remained on-site to troubleshoot problems, identify software issues, install updates for PLC programs, install updates & modify Human-Interface-Devices, program laser (bar-code) scanners and resolve all mechanical & electrical issues. All machines use an Omron PLC; some also utilize windows based PC because of the complex functions being performed. This line was governed by an Upper Level Controller which received data throughout the process; Smema protocol was utilized between each piece of equipment to route products properly as directed by the ULC. Most machines on this project utilized automation & robotics; some were much more complex with automatic feeders providing parts and components for building the product.
