Sr. Optical Technician Promoted to Senior Optical Technician in the Systems Experimentation Group supporting a team of high level Engineers and Scientists in the light wave systems laboratory. As the sole Technician in this group, I was responsible for assisting with all activities, projects and studies. Duties include performing experiments and gathering data to be used for determining the direction and future of the system. Performed setup and installation of optical long haul DWDM system racks and test equipment, equipment and component procurement, created and maintained an inventory system for the group, maintaining records, ordered consumables, optical upgrade, repair or replacement of systems boards and modules, fusion splicing, system and test equipment setup and operation, and overseeing all internal lab requirements. Optical Technician Duties included extensive testing, measuring, and screening of optical components, compiling and reporting data and monitoring, recording and presenting results. Performed long term testing over temperature, building and testing prototype units and worked closely with Sr. Engineers and Scientists. Participated in the early development stages of the optical system, assisted in the startup of manufacturing, wrote procedures and trained new operators. Successfully transferred methods and procedures from the development stage to full manufacturing.
