Daily Duties at Orbitz Worldwide:

Migrated data associated with the CheapTickets brand from an offsite UNIX/Sybase environment into an Orbitz defined schema within an UNIX/Oracle environment performing the activities of mapping the data elements from the source to the target environment; implementing a staging schema to house the incoming data prior to insertion into the target database; writing SQL*loader processes to load the extracted Sybase data into the Oracle staging schema; writing PL/SQL procedures for use by the developers in massaging and synchronizing the data with hotel, car, air external booking agents; writing PL/SQL procedures to retrieve the data from the staging schema and insert same into the target schema; and, define, develop and implement a data purging strategy. In support of the ESPN Travel Partnership Project, the ESPN Lead Pricing Project, the Electronic Seat Upgrade Project, the Deal Detector Project, the Company Locator Project, the Disney Values Upgrade Project and other minor initiatives, analyzed data requirements; created, redesigned or modified logical and physical data models; and, wrote scripts to enact and roll back the schema and ancillary object changes or additions. Designed and developed PL/SQL procedures to compare and reconcile data, schema objects and data control privileges between several hotel related schemas resident in replicated, failover databases and their source schemas. Wrote PL/SQL procedures and UNIX KORN Shell scripts to correct or roll back corrupted production data; to change the partition key of a 22 million row table; to update hotel content data; to change public synonyms to private synonyms for all of the hotel related schemas; and, to update the expert hotel reviews. Designed, developed and implemented a mechanism to automate deployment procedures and, to store deployment process data and deploy script execution timings which entailed designing and implementing a data model; compiling and writing SQL scripts to insert data on Orbitz’s existing databases, schemas and essential support personnel; writing KORN, SED, AWK scripts to extract meaningful data from deploy script headers and ancillary files; design and write a method for inserting the captured data into said schema; and, develop interim reports. Participated in exercises with developers and Database Administrators to identify and tune poorly performing SQL statements, and to identify proper indexing strategies. Wrote and implemented an automated process to perform ongoing monthly hotel currency updates and monthly updates to hotel amenities data. Designed and developed a data purging process for the Orbitz Messaging System to continually remove a backlog of messages over 18 months from the schema’s various tables.
