Daily Duties at Determina, Inc :

Senior Quality Assurance Engineer -Organized and drove Persistent’s UI Automation Framework (JWebUnit & TestComplete). Corrected and update scripts when there have been changes in the UI during the SDLC. Coordinate the ownership of India’s JWebUnit automated framework; troubleshoot if automation fails and getting it working for running it against nightly builds for regression testing. -Lead and coordinated work assignments with the Persistent team in India for testing the Determina Management Enterprise Version Console on Windows platforms. Participate in weekly conference calls with the India team to talk about the previous weeks testing and next week’s new testing tasks along with my QA Manager. Continue review existing test cases and adding new ones for closed defects and new functionality. -Maintained and updated the Master Schedule Plan per each Development Lifecycle in coordination with the QA Manager. Use automation to Verify and install nightly builds, testing new features before turning over the testing to the India Team. Execute MetaSploits and Core Impact for vulnerability penetration testing against servers that are protected by the Determina Vulnerability Protection suite.

What are you working on?

Recently I was working on testing a core functionality (Siperian, Inc). Working with the developer we where able to find better ways to test it. This enabled me to find many bugs that where not found during the patch release for this feature and I removed test cases that where not relevant. This gave me great satisfaction in being able to find bugs which the developer mentioned in the bug report that it was good catch. A comment from my Senior QA Manager said I was able to catch bugs that where not caught before. With this confirmation I felt happy that our customers will have a better product.

What have you done to become more effective in your position?

To become more effective in my position, I purchase books on the subject I am testing, like Oracle PL/SQL, IBM Websphere and JBOSS, so I can become more familiar with functionality of the what Siperian Application is installed on. For the feature I am working on I usually study the Design Documentation if any, if not I work with the developer to get better insight into the functional aspects of the feature and how it works. My goal is to help the customer and to eliminate as much customer support calls that will be coming in as possible.

Do you know what is expected of you at work?

If I do not know or if I am not sure what is expected, I will ask my manager to confirm what is expected of me. I want to make sure I am doing the job as I was hired. While on the job I will be part of a team where features and task are assigned. I would expect to go to project feature meetings, if any, and to participate in feature reviews of design specs, etc. I will also provide as part of the SDLC the Test Plan and Test Case sign-offs from the team, if any. If there are no features teams or design specs, etc, I will be at ease to work with the developer to understand the feature. I am self-managed and know what is expected. At times in lieu of the weekly project status, I will update my manager on what I am working on.
