Daily Duties at Union Metal Corporation:
Performed stress and deflection calculations on fabricated structures of steel and aluminum for traffic control and lighting to AASHTO requirements; determined related dead, ice, and wind loads. Interpreted state, county, and municipal specs, drawings, and plans to obtain related information. Oversaw preparation of proposal drawings for customer approval. Recommended alternative designs using standard parts and assemblies saving cost and/or throughput. Took opportunities to use simpler or fewer designs. Answered technical inquiries from state, county, and municipal personnel and their consultants, especially for approval of calculations or drawings. Provided PE-stamped calculations and drawings as needed. Served on process/procedures improvement team for shop drawing group to improve its turnaround time; contributed to and edited written procedures for successful ISO-9001 certification. Investigated problems with grading and testing A595 tubes, resulting in elimination of marginal process. Prepared weekly charts and statistics of related test data using Excel. Demonstrated deflection and permanent set testing on trolley poles required for customer acceptance. Documented tube advance procedure and successfully trained appropriate members for pilot team.
