Daily Duties at Solarex:

Responsible for defining, developing and executing research project to develop new materials and develop technology for improving performance of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) and amorphous silicon-germanium (a-SiGe:H) single-junction as well as tandem-junction solar cells. Hands-on experience on large-area (1 ft x 1 ft) DC PECVD technique as well as solar cells measurements techniques, such as current-voltage (I-V) and quantum efficiency (Q-E) or spectral response. I have also experience in scaling-up of the process from small system (1 ft x 1 ft) to large-area system (2 ft x 2 ft). Analysis of the results, reporting in the meeting and recommend to the higher level manager for next phase of the project were part of job responsibilities. I led simultaneously two to three projects on developing manufacturing technology of a-Si solar cells. Reproduced device-quality a-Si:H and a-SiGe:H thin-film by helium diluted silane plasma in DC PECVD, where only ?–regime is the plasma sustaining mechanism. Using helium dilution technology, the total process time of a-Si:H/a-SiGe:H tandem-junction was reduced to 60 minutes, a milestone of Solarex (at present BP Solar) FY2000, accomplished in 1997! I developed a-Si:H absorber layer with lower stabilized defect density than state-of-the-art a-Si:H film of Solarex. I also invented high chamber pressure process that produces a-Si:H absorber layer with lower optical gap and higher stabilized efficiency. I proposed a project to study the interelectrode spacing in DC PECVD on performance and stability of a-Si:H, a-SiGe:H solar cells as well as tandem-junction. Participated in writing research grant for submission to the National Renewable Energy laboratory (NREL) and finally the project (Contract no. ZAK-8-17619-02, FY: 1997 - 2000) was accepted.

What they like about Solarex:

You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
