Daily Duties at University Of Kaiserslautern:

Responsible for defining, designing and executing experiments on developement of device quality nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si) thin-film as well as technology development of amorphous silicon and nanocrystalline silicon tandem-junction solar cells by hot wire chemical vapor deposition (hot-wire CVD) technique. Hands-on experiment in a four-chamber hot-wire CVD system. In-situ diagnostic technique, UV-VIS ellipsometry was attached with one of the chambers to investigate the nucleation and growth of amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) and nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si) on glass or on top of doped layer. For the first time, highly photosensitive (103) nc-Si thin-film with high growth rate (> 1 nm/s) has been invented. Incorporating these device quality film, we reported for the first time a-Si/nc-Si tandem-junction solar cells, entirely fabricated by hot-wire CVD with total process time less than 50 minutes. This invention opens up a new direction for the fabrication of truly low-cost a-Si:H solar cells. Guiding Ph.D. students, working on amorphous silicon and nanocrystalline silicon thin-film semiconductors was part of my job responsibilities. Participated in discussion on a research project on developing device quality a-Si:H thin-film and single-junction solar cells by a large-area (1 ft x 1 ft) hot-wire CVD reactor.
