Daily Duties at Department Of Conservation:

Conducted population surveys, trapped and banded various wildlife species, including: Indiana and Gray bats, bobwhite quail, Canada geese, mourning doves, prairie chickens, song birds, and ruffed grouse. Database manager for the Missouri Ozark Forest Ecosystem Project bird project, upland game bird surveys and waterfowl bird banding schedules. Collected and maintained a captive mourning dove colony at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Animal Science Research Center, to determine the best technique for attaching radio transmitters to doves. Collected specimens, performed lab analyses and analyzed data for the presence of Trichomoniasis in mourning doves. Analyzed soil samples for the presence of lead shot and its effects on mourning dove populations. Other duties: processed river otters for release into state waters; conducted hunter surveys; operated furbearer scent station routes and deer check stations; collected and identified plants, seeds and insects or food plot studies; maintained the Department’s native plant seed collection; hired, supervised and trained field and lab technicians, including student interns on the Missouri Ozark Forest Ecosystem Project; and conducted driver and field safety training.
