Daily Duties at Lawrence Livermore National Lab:

• Obtain spectra using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) of lanthanide and actinide colloids, which can then be used as references when analyzing soil samples and the like for actinide contamination. Made and analyzed (photon correlation spectroscopy, fluorescence absorption and emission spectroscopy) Europium(III) colloids. Performed LIBS analysis of microspheres coated with Americium(III). To evaluate the possibility of using LIBS to identify and estimate the concentration of actinides in a given sample, determined if there was a direct correlation with concentration and peak height/area.
